High Court orders state to explain Science Ministry appointment
By DAN IZENBERG
The High Court of Justice on Monday issued an order instructing the state to explain why it appointed Shalom Jerby director-general of the Science Ministry even though a special committee had recommended rejecting the candidate.
Monday's ruling came in the wake of a petition filed by the Movement for Quality Government (MQG) calling for the nullification of the government's decision.
The committee, headed by Civil Service Commissioner Shmuel Hollander, had unanimously declared that Jerby did not have enough experience to qualify for the job.
The cabinet agreed to allow Jerby to serve on a trial basis for six months and decide afterwards whether to make the appointment permanent.
