BISMARCK, North Dakota — North Dakota's Republican Gov. John Hoeven has won the US Senate race, gaining a seat how held by a Democrat.The victory making him the first Republican from the state to hold that office in a quarter-century.Hoeven easily outpolled poorly funded Democrat Tracy Potter on Tuesday for the Senate seat now held by retiring Democrat Byron Dorgan.Hoeven is the country's longest-tenured governor. He is the only governor in state history to win three four-year terms.
