Israeli suspected in 1998 Haifa murder extradited from Berlin by police

Police have arrested a man living in Berlin under a false identity as the suspect in the murder of Edward Rothberg who was murdered on July 3, 1998 on Nordau Street in Haifa according to police reports.
Over the years the police managed to identify suspect in the Rothberg murder who had fled the country just hours after the incident. Active investigations over the last two years identified the suspect, a former Haifa resident, who had settled in Berlin under a false name.
The suspect was extradited back to Israel for prosecution. Extradition efforts were made possible through diplomatic channels between Israeli police officials and the international department of the State Department  in cooperation with German law enforcement.
Israeli police went to Berlin last week as part of the investigation and returned yesterday with the suspect in custody.
