Italy nuclear decree amended to avoid vote

ROME - Italy's government has added an amendment to a decree on nuclear energy to scrap all the rules governing plant construction, aiming to avoid a referendum due on nuclear power, a parliamentary source said on Tuesday.
Italy has already announced a one-year moratorium on site selection and the building of nuclear plants, but the amendment would block all rules governing the construction of new nuclear plants indefinitely, the source said.
The source added that the change was aimed at avoiding a referendum due on June 12 on the building of nuclear power plants in the country.
