Jerusalem woman suspected of starving her 3-year-old son

A Jerusalem woman has been arrested on suspicion of starving her three-year-old son, it was announced Tuesday. The boy was in serious condition at the capital's Hadassa Ein Kerem Hospital. The woman was remanded for a further five days in custody at a Jerusalem Magistrate's Court hearing on Tuesday afternoon, with Judge Alexander Ron describing the affair as extremely serious. She allegedly abused her son and stopped him from eating until his weight went down to just seven kilograms. Police said the suspect was being uncooperative. The woman apparently has Munchausen Syndrome, diagnosed among adults who abuse of another being, typically a child, in order to draw attention or sympathy to themselves.
