JNF to rehabilitate central park in Mexico City

The Jewish National Fund (JNF) will rehabilitate the Alameda Park in central Mexico City, according to an agreement the group signed with the municipality on Tuesday.
JNF officials will help spruce up the recreational area by dispatching its experts to the country's capital.
“The oldest environmental institution in the world has turned deserts into forests and swamps into orchards,” said Executive Chairman of JNF Nathan Shteremberg at the signing of the deal. “Each tree planted in Israel has a name, and each of those trees is the result of somebody’s hard work".
The Alameda stands atop a site which used to be an Aztec marketplace. In recent years its poplars and lawns have shown signs of aging and are in need of attention.
