Labor rebel Tamir to PM: Appoint female attorney-general

Labor rebel MK Tamir to

Labor rebel MK Yuli Tamir called upon Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday to appoint the first-ever female attorney-general. Tamir noted that the Netanyahu government had taken a step backward in promoting women to key positions and suggested that he use the attorney-general post to fix the problem. She said the parity among the candidates for the job allowed him to consider an additional factor. "It would be proper to choose Prof. Dafna Barak-Erez as attorney-general, not just because of her exceptional skills but also because she is a woman," Tamir wrote to Netanyahu. "You have a unique opportunity to prove that equality is not just an empty slogan for you but an important guiding principle."
