Meretz going to Supreme Court over public housing

Meretz reports that MK Ilan Gilon and former Meretz MK Ran Cohen are filing a Supreme Court application for enforcement of the Public Housing Law. The party claims that the Housing Ministry have refused to enforce the law which was passed 15 years ago.
The Public Housing Law enables rental residents of public housing in Israel to buy their apartments at a subsidized rate. Under the law, the funds from the sale of the public housing apartments can be used exclusively for the building of new public housing.
Meretz claims, that although public housing apartments have been sold to residents in the amount of 2.7 billion NIS, not one new public housing residence has been built and the waiting list for these apartments is only becoming longer.
