The new Ambassador to Egypt, Yaakov Amitai, officially began his tenure Monday evening after submitting his credentials to the head Egypt's Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Mohamed Huseein Tantawi.Amitai will replace the previous ambassador, Yithak Levanon, who retired last year. The new ambassador was present a ceremony in Cairo that included a number of new ambassadors from other nations, according to Channel 10 news. The Israeli national anthem was played as a part of the ceremony. Amitai and Tantawi spoke at the ceremony about importance of the 1979 peace accords signed between the two countries. Channel 10 news quoted Amitai as saying "I will do my best in order to deepen mutual understanding and strengthen the cooperation between Egypt and Israel."
