New neighborhood to be built in east Jerusalem

A new neighborhood in east Jerusalem called Givat Hamatos just east of Beit Safa is in its final stage of review, and construction could begin within as little as a month, Peace Now said in a press release on their website on Thursday.
According to Peace Now, this new development, which will include over 2,00 new housing units, is a significant "game changer" for the Jerusalem municipality because it isolates Bethlehem from east Jerusalem, destroying "any possibility of a territorial solution in Beit Safafa and Shurafat."
The website also claims that it will be impossible to implement the Geneva Accords - which called for Jerusalem to be a shared capital - without dismantling the new neighborhood.
