Palestinian minors' detention periods in W. Bank shortened

The state attorney announced on Tuesday major changes in significantly shortening the detention periods under the IDF's detention policies for Palestinian minors in the West Bank military court system.
The changes were announced in an updated response by the state to two petitions filed in 2010 against the Defense Ministry and the IDF by the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI) and the Office for Palestinian Prisoners.
The new shortened detention periods were ordered on November 28 and will take effect on April 2, 2013.
Some changes include shortening initial detention until being brought before a judge from 8 days to 24 hours for minors under the age of 14, regardless of the nature of the offense.
