Palmachim plant doubles its desalination output

The expansion section of the Palmachim desalination facility officially opened on Tuesday, increasing the plant's capacity from 45 million cubic meters of desalinated water per year to 90 million cubic meters.
Installation occurred under the auspices of Global Environmental Solutions (GES), a subsidiary of the Azrieli Group's Granite Hacarmel Investments. "Doubling the quantity of water is essential to the future, the the economy and to the security of Israel," said Energy and Water Minister Dr. Uzi Landau. "The area in which we live is the wild Middle East, and therefore, we must provide our water by ourselves."Israel's current total desalination capacity is 300 million cubic meters per year, according to Landau.
