Israel Police investigate death of 3-year-old stranded in car

Israel Police opened on Tuesday an investigation into the death of a three-year-old child who was forgotten in a family car and was brought lifeless to the hospital.

According to police, the father had returned home and asked the baby's mother where he was. It turned out, he never made it out of the car.

The investigation will be carried out in conjunction with the State Attorney's Office.

This is the fourth case since the beginning of 2021 that a child died due to being left behind in a car, according to the organization Before Child Safety. Since 2010, the death toll numbers 38.

"Studies show that leaving children behind in the car usually happens due to fatigue, stress and a change in routine," Before Child Safety CEO Orly Silvinger said in a statement. "Parents, don't tell me that this would for sure never happen to you. Put in a failsafe, a life-saving habit. Open the backdoor of your car, call your partner, leave something important in the backseat."

Silvinger also recommended installing a smart system to ensure children aren't left behind.
