Report: Abbas reaffirms he will head transitional gov't

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas reaffirmed Sunday that he would serve as interim prime minister of a transition Palestinian government, after some Hamas officials objected to Abbas serving that role.
Speaking in Cairo during his visit to the Arab League headquarters in Egypt, Abbas said the government would be responsible for presidential and parliamentary elections, according to Palestinian news agency Ma'an.
While the agreement that was signed in Qatar last week by Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Doha stipulated that the interim government would be comprised of independent figures, Abbas said Sunday that full reconciliation with Hamas would require more discussion.
He said the same of the peace process with Israel, according to the report.
