Syria's Assad to make speech as mass protests mount

AMMAN - Syria's President Bashar al-Assad will make a speech on Saturday to the new government he named last week, the official news agency said, a day after protests intensified against his rule.
The agency said the speech would be aired by Syrian television at 1500 GMT.The government has no significant political weight in Syria, where power is held by Assad, his family and the security apparatus.
