TAIPEI - China's military threat to self-ruled Taiwan is growing even though relations are at their warmest in decades, with China showing no sign of offering any goodwill, the island's defense ministry said on Tuesday.
Ties have improved rapidly since Taiwan President Ma Ying-jeou took office in 2008 and signed a series of landmark trade and tourism agreements with Beijing.
"Though cross-Strait relations are gradually improving, theChinese Communists' policy towards
Taiwan still stresses that'
Taiwan independence' forces threaten its sovereignty andsecurity,"
Taiwan's
Defense Ministry said in its annual whitepaper.
