Ukraine: Thousands gather at Rabbi Nachman's tomb

KIEV, Ukraine — Tens of thousands of Hasidim from around the world gathered in the small Ukrainian city of Uman to mark Rosh Hashana at the tomb of their spiritual leader, Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav.
Ukraine's chief rabbi Yaakov Dov Bleich says the turnout may be as many as 50,000 — about twice as many as in previous years.
The yearly Rosh Hashana pilgrimages bring Hasidim to Uman to pray, dance and recite psalms around the grave of Rabbi Nachman.
This year is the 200th anniversary of his death.
The pilgrimage was outlawed when Ukraine was part of the officially atheist Soviet Union.
