WASHINGTON - The US military conducted five airstrikes near the Syrian border town of Kobani in the past two days, and Kurdish militia in the area appear to "control most of the city and are holding out against" Islamic State militants, US Central Command said in a statement on Thursday.
The strikes, conducted Wednesday and Thursday, damaged an Islamic State training camp and destroyed one of the militant group's support buildings as well as two vehicles, according to the statement. They also hit one small unit and one large unit of militant fighters, it added.
