U.S. Senate rejects President Trump’s National Emergency declaration

The US Senate overturned President Donald Trump’s national emergency border declaration on Thursday when 12 Republican Senators joined Democrats in a 59-41 vote against the presidential executive action, CNN reported.

While below the two thirds majority needed to cancel a presidential veto, the vote is a blow to Trump and an indication that even among his own party some are willing to confront him on the issue of building a wall along the US-Mexican border.
