Wiesenthal Center welcomes Demjanjuk conviction

The Simon Wiesenthal Center welcomed Thursday's conviction of Sobibor death camp guard John Demjanjuk by a Munich court.
The Center's chief Nazi hunter Dr. Efraim Zuroff said the conviction "sends a powerful message that those responsible for Holocaust crimes can still be held accountable even though decades have passed since they were committed."
He added that he hopes Demjanjuk's conviction will "facilitate the prosecution of additional Nazi war criminals in Germany and other countries."
"Today's verdict is a long-awaited victory for the victims, their families and people of moral conscience," Zuroff said.
