Discount Bank workers on strike today

Labor dispute is over the rights of temporary workers, who have been employed by the bank for five to seven years.

Israel Discount Bank’s 5,000 employees will be on strike Wednesday,closing all of the the bank’s branches. They are to attend a conferencein Tel Aviv with Histadrut Labor Federation chairman Ofer Eini.

The labor dispute, which has been ongoing for several weeks, is overthe rights of temporary workers, who have been employed by the bank forfive to seven years. They have not been given the status of permanentworkers, which means they have no job security and could be fired atany time.

Israel Discount Bank said directbanking channels including telephone, Internet and other automaticbanking services would operate as usual on Wednesday.
