The Hind Rajab Foundation on Wednesday filed a complaint with the US Justice Department against an Israeli IDF veteran who served in the Gaza Strip.
The soldier served in the military as a combat engineer and is due to attend an event at Boston University on Wednesday evening.
HRF demands that the Justice Department investigate the veteran for "war crimes and acts amounting to genocide committed during Israel’s war in Gaza."
This incident is HRF's second complaint within the US in the past two weeks, following a complaint filed against Israeli stand-up comedian Guy Hochman, resulting in his shows being canceled due to protest activity, but no legal proceedings have been taken.
HRF alleges that the soldier, whom it named but The Jerusalem Post is keeping anonymous for his personal security, has turned "from a soldier to a propagandist" by taking a role traveling around the world to "justify, glorify, and normalize the destruction of Gaza."
HRF claimed that the soldier "denied civilian status to Palestinians and continued to defend the destruction of civilian and religious structures."
IDF order attempts to prevent identification of soldiers for war crime accusations
The IDF General Staff issued an order intended to prevent such complaints against soldiers and veterans of the recent war. "Do not photograph or publish images in uniform or from areas of activity, avoid documentation that could be interpreted as harm to the civilian population, and consider the international implications of every post or image," the order instructs.
However, despite these guidelines, there appears to have been little enforcement from the military, leading to HRF being able to file dozens of complaints worldwide.
