The IDF announced Wednesday the death of Staff-Sergeant Stav Halfon, who fell during combat in the south Gaza Strip.

St.-Sgt. Halfon, 20, from Petah Tikva, served in the 603rd Combat Engineering Battalion of the 7th Armored Brigade.

Additionally, a reservist who served in the 8105th Battalion, in the 646th Brigade, was severely wounded during combat, also in southern Gaza. He has been evacuated to a hospital for treatment.

Halfon's death follows several other soldiers falling in combat in the Gaza Strip over recent days.

St.-Sgt. Naveh Leshem, a soldier in the Golani Brigade's 12th Battalion, was killed in battle while fighting in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday.

Capt. (res.) Tal Movshovitz, 28, from Reut, served as a deputy company commander in the 7086th Combat Engineering Battalion in the Golani Brigade and was also employed by the Shin Bet. He was killed in combat on Monday.

Earlier in June, a bomb detonated in Khan Yunis, killing four IDF soldiers, and injuring others. They were named by the IDF as Warrant Officer Chen Gross, Sgt.-Maj. Tom Rotstein, St.-Sgt. Yoav Raver, and Sergeant Uri Yehonatan Cohen.

Five other IDF soldiers were wounded in the same explosion.

The work of IDF Combat Engineers in Gaza

IDF Combat Engineers, among other tasks, have been operating across the Gaza Strip to map and destroy the Hamas terror tunnel network.

The Golani Brigade's engineering battalion, with assistance from soldiers from the Engineering Corps's Yahalom Unit, mapped out and sealed a Hamas terror tunnel near Khan Yunis's European Hospital in the south Gaza Strip, the military confirmed on Tuesday.

Sealing the tunnel involved using trucks and cement mixers to pour 250 cubic meters of concrete, the military added, noting that the operation was "carried out with precision and care to avoid damaging the hospital building."
