'Mubarak's son stole profits from gas sales to Israel'

Egyptian newspaper reports Gamal Mubarak being investigated for allegedly pocketing five percent of revenues from gas deal with Israel.

Gamal Mubarak, the son of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, is being investigated for allegedly taking five percent of the money made from natural gas sales to Israel to his own personal account, Egyptian newspaper al-Masri al-Youm reported on Saturday.
According to the report, Mubarak also used his influence to obtain five percent of the revenues for businessman Hussein Salem.

Mubarak has denied the allegations, saying "I have no bearing on the issue of gas from near or far and did not get a commission."
Hosni Mubarak, his wife and a second son are also facing corruption charges in Egypt. Last month, Egyptian Justice Minister Mohammed el-Guindi said Mubarak had made corruption the chief "discourse" of his government.
Last week, Egypt's former interior minister, hated for the brutality of his police by the protesters who ousted Hosni Mubarak, was jailed for 12 years on for money laundering and profiteering, a judicial source said.
Habib al-Adli is one of the most senior Mubarak-era ministers to be put on trial. His conviction highlights the desire of the generals who now rule Egypt to show their commitment to cracking down on abuse of power and corruption.
