IDF confirmed that five Palestinian workers were shot and taken to the hospital after IDF troops opened fire in what was Ma'an News described on Tuesday as a series of sniper attacks.
The men said they were collecting stone fragments in the northern Gaza Strip near the evacuated settlement of Eli Sinai when the incident occurred.
The men were first evacuated by donkey cart and then transferred to Red Crescent ambulances and admitted to the Kamal Udwan Hospital in Jabaliya.
IDF confirmed that soldiers shot at men who came too close to the border fence.
"The forces had no choice but to shoot at the suspects' lower body, and identified a direct hit."
