Starmer told his ministers on Tuesday that Mandelson's alleged leaks to Epstein were "disgraceful", marking his strongest condemnation yet of the man he appointed envoy last year.

The couple's refusal escalated a monthlong battle against the chairman of the Republican-led House Oversight Committee, James R. Comer of Kentucky.

"I want to apologize to those women for a system that refused to hear their voices and did not give them the protection they were entitled to expect," Mandelson told the BBC.

Compliant lawmakers from Likud and the Republican Party are balking at letting these scandals pass.
