Scholz's government is developing a new China strategy to reduce dependence on Asia's economic superpower, a vital export market for German goods.
"The message is the same across the G7: that we want to work with China in those areas where China is prepared to work with us," a senior US State Department official told reporters on a call.
The ministers of the G7 – France, Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, the US and Japan, meet in Japan between April 16 to 18.
