Prosecutors referred the case to the court of Bassem Awadallah, an ex-royal court chief and finance minister who played a big role in the drive to liberalize Jordan's economy, and Sherif Hassan.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz reportedly held a secret meeting with the King of Amman at the beginning of this year due to his fear of the deteriorating relations between the King and Netanyahu.

State media showed the monarch and other members of the royal family laying wreaths at the memorial to the unknown soldier and tombs of royalty in the Raghdan palace in Amman.

No country in the region appears to have tried to fan the flames of the controversy or take advantage of it.

While Prince Hamza is not seen as a direct threat to the king, his actions suggest he is keen to shore up his position with ordinary Jordanians after he was removed from the royal succession.

Arrests of top officials and royal family members are rare in Jordan.

An Israeli named Roi Shpushnik who currently lives in Europe has admitted to offering Prince Hamza's wife assistance, but has insisted that he has never worked for the Israeli Mossad.

Jordanian officials passed a message to Israel that the situation was under control and there was no threat to the kingdom’s stability, but nonetheless, Israel cannot afford to ignore the events.
