Transportation Minister Israel Katz and National Infrastructures Minister Uzi Landau announced on Sunday that within weeks Israel would stop marketing 96-Octane gasoline. The two held a meeting on Sunday where they decided to conclude the process of phasing out the fuel that began in 2007.

The Transportation Ministry estimates that there are 4,000 vehicles in Israel, all pre-1994 models that still require the fuel to comply with the manufacturer’s best performance recommendations, as well as several thousand additional buyers who purchase it unnecessarily.According to the Ministry of National Infrastructure spokesman, the last remaining stock of 96-Octane gasoline would be sold in the next few weeks after which no new orders would be placed.

The spokesman said that the remaining users would be able to either use a mix of 95-Octane and 98-Octane fuels to reach the same effect or else use 95-Octane as a substitute.
