Barkat blames PMO, police for lack of e. J'lem demolitions

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat on Tuesday said that the Prime Minister's Office and the police are preventing the Jerusalem municipality from demolishing illegaly built homes in east Jerusalem.

Barkat's comments came in response to State Comptroller reports criticizing Jerusalem for not curbing illegal construction in east Jerusalem.Jerusalem's mayor explained that any demolition in east Jerusalem must be carried out with a police escort that was not being provided.
