Barkat increases culture, youth and sports budget

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat on Thursday announced a marked increase to the municipality’s annual budget for culture, sports and youth and community-engagement programs from NIS 12 million to NIS 14 m. In a statement, Barkat said he remains dedicated to investing in strengthening the capital’s cultural institutions.

“After we created a cultural revolution in Jerusalem, we are now investing in strengthening and developing the community and neighborhoods in the city,” he said. Barkat said the budgetary increase is intended to improve the economy, local neighborhoods and encourage greater engagement with the capital’s youth sector.
