The Civil Union Law may not be ideal, but it is premature to strike it down at this time, noted the High Court of Justice on Thursday in rejecting the Jerusalem Institute of Justice and the Association for the Rights of Mixed Families petition to overturn the law.Despite the court's rejection of the petition, the fact that the court implied at different points that it agreed with the petitioners that the law needed work, but that they wanted to give the law time, possibly to be amended, left the door open for the issue to be revisited in the future.The law, passed in March 2010, enables Israelis with no officially defined religion to join in a civil union recognized by the state.
