Kerry: It's in the US interest for Israel to maintain a lasting peace

US Secretary of State John Kerry delivered a speech at a news conference on Wednesday.
The secretary spoke on the future prospects of a two-state solution and overall Middle East peace in the region.
Kerry began the conference by wishing those in attendance a "merry Christmas" and a "happy Hanukkah.
"Throughout this administration, [US] President Barack Obama has been devoted to" making peace in the Middle East," Kerry said.
"The two-state solution is the only way to arrive at a just and lasting peace," Kerry insisted, adding that the United States has a vested interest in protecting the "Jewish and democratic state" of Israel, while seeking to maintain a lasting peace with its neighbors.
