TRIPOLI - Libya wants stability but will fight back if rebels try to take advantage of Western strikes on government forces to advance towards Tripoli, a government spokesman said on Monday.

"Our aim is peace and stability and the unity of Libya. But at the end we will defend ourselves. We are arming our people. You will have a nation of 6 million armed persons and we will fight. There is no doubt," government spokesman Mussa Ibrahim told reporters.
