Jose de Jesus Mendez Vargas, also known as "The Monkey," was arrested by Mexican police on Tuesday, according to a CNN report.

Mendez Vargas was reportedly the head of the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel, which has been responsible for drug smuggling, kidnappings, and murders of law enforcement agents as well as rival gang members.

There was a 30 million peso ($2.5 million) reward for the capture of Mendez Vargas, according to the report.
