Palestinians: Kerry to meet Abbas in Amman for peace push

RAMALLAH, West Bank - US Secretary of State John Kerry will meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Jordan this week in a bid to resume stalled Middle East peace talks, a Palestinian official said on Monday.
The US State Department said Kerry would travel to Jordan to discuss with Arab League states the revival of Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, which broke down in 2010, and the crisis with Syria.
"President Abbas is going to meet John Kerry in Amman on Tuesday or on Wednesday to continue discussing his efforts to return to (peace) negotiations," a Palestinian official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said. An Israeli government spokesman declined to comment on Kerry's visit.
