Sderot residents cancel petition over school strike

A petition due to be heard Wednesday morning in the Beersheba Administrative Court against the Sderot mayor's decision to close all the city's state-run schools was canceled following the mayor's last-minute decision to stop the strike.
The petition had been filed by a group of five Sderot residents, including city council member Alon Davidi, who argued that the mayor's decision not to open the schools would endanger Sderot residents' safety.
Attorney Smadar Tal-Tativian, representing the petitioners, said Mayor Busilka's decision to cancel the strike was "entirely due to the petition," and added that claims the strike was canceled following discussions with the Prime Minister's office were not true.
