Shamgar C'tee on soldier abductions gives report to Barak

January 5, 2012 11:21

The Shamgar Committee on Thursday presented Defense Minister Ehud Barak with its recommendations for guidelines for responding to future abductions of IDF soldiers.

The panel recommended that Israel avoid conducting large-scale prisoner swaps for abducted soldiers like the one it carried out in October in exchange for Gilad Schalit in which 1,027 Palestinian prisoners were released by Israel.

The government will review the recommendations and vote on whether or not to accept them.
