UK firefighters: People trapped after gas blast

LONDON — British firefighters say that at least three homes were damaged and an undisclosed number of people are trapped after a gas explosion tore through a row of houses in the Manchester area of northern England.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service say that the blast happened in Salford, about 200 miles (320 kilometers) northwest of London, just before 7:15 a.m. (0715GMT) Tuesday.
Firefighters say a rescue operation is ongoing.
