WASHINGTON - The United States is alarmed by violence against anti-government protesters in Yemen, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Friday, calling on Yemeni security forces to exercise "maximum restraint."

"The United States is alarmed by today's violence in Sana'a against anti-government protesters and is seeking to verify reports that this is the result of actions by security forces," Clinton said in a statement, urging genuine political dialogue to address "the legitimate concerns of the Yemeni people."
