A senior official suggested that Trump hopes to see more vigilance from European nations in terms of Iran's nuclear program.
The Trump administration has warned that Iran will become “the next North Korea” if the JCPOA remains as is.
US President Donald Trump has threatened to pull out of the deal unless Congress and European allies help "fix" it with a follow-up agreement.
"I could imagine such a format being used to end the North Korea conflict. Europe and especially Germany should be prepared to play a very active part in that."
Passage of the bill should have no effect on the nuclear deal, argue its authors, who aim to target “non-nuclear” Iranian behavior deemed a threat to the region by Republicans and Democrats alike.

The US has had a long-standing policy of keeping mum on the existence of Israel’s nuclear weapons program.
But Salehi, the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, told reporters in Brussels: "If words are not turned into deeds, then ... it is very ominous, the situation would be unpredictable."
While Israel maintains nuclear ambiguity, the Jewish state is believed to possess up to 200 atomic weapons.
