The visit was intended to counter attacks from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Likud leaders who have tried to paint Benny Gantz, Yair Lapid, Moshe Ya'alon and Gabi Ashkenazi as left-wing.
The two former IDF chiefs of staff, have been rumored to be joining forces and create a "generals party" to challenge Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The Jerusalem Post reported on Friday that a likely scenario is that Gantz would be Netanyahu's defense minister and Ya'alon would be the opposition leader after their joint list breaks up.
