Six African migrants were killed in the Sinai over the weekend in a human trafficking venture gone awry, Israel Radio reported.
According to Egyptian authorities, Beduin smugglers tied up over 300 migrants because of their refusal to increase the payments they had offered to be smuggled into Israel. Several of the migrants managed to escape from their bonds, stole some weapons from their Beduin captors and opened fire. Four of the migrants were then killed in an ensuing firefight between them and the Beduin smugglers.
About another 100 migrants managed to escape from their Beduin smugglers during the fight, but two of these escapees were shot by Egyptian police along the border with Israel before they could reach safety.
