Bill on sexual assault by religious leaders clears hurdle

Legislation considering the relationship between a religious leader and a follower one of authority in which sexual relations between the two, even with consent, are considered assault, passed a preliminary reading in the Knesset Wednesday.
The bill was proposed by MK Michal Rosin (Meretz), who said she hoped the bill will help the judiciary take action against gurus and cult leaders who take advantage of their status to hurt their followers.
