C'tee ends 20-year tenure of director of rabbinical courts

The ten-member Committee for Appointing Rabbinical Judges unanimously decided on Friday to end the 20-year tenure of director of rabbinical courts Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan within two months, after it was agreed that Ben-Dahan's stepping down would not be dependent on the appointment of a new director.
This understanding allayed concerns over the possibility that Ben-Dahan's future replacement would be the result of a political deal rather than of managerial skills and excellence in rabbinical judicature.
Justice Minister Yaakov Neeman, who heads the appointment committee, is meanwhile forming a public search committee for the next director, whose tenure will be time-limited, as per recent government directives which apply to public officials, including in judicial positions.
