Egyptian police officer sentenced to death

An Egyptian police officer has been sentenced to death for killing 20 protesters by a criminal court in Cairo, Al Jazeera reported on Sunday.
Mohamed Ibrahim Abdel-Monem was found guilty in his absence for shooting "at random" some 20 protesters on one of the most violent days in January of protests that brought down the government of former president Hosni Mubarak.
The Cairo court has referred the case to Egypt's Grand Mufti Sheikh Ali Goma'a who must approve all cases of capital punishment.
