Gantz rejects criticism of appointments to General Staff

IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Benny Gantz on Sunday rejected criticism of his senior appointments to the General Staff, saying, "We take the best and put them in the right place. All of the noise around is meant to vilify with no basis or justification."

Reports in the Israeli media had quoted military sources as voicing displeasure at the appointment of Maj.-Gen. (res.) Shai Avital to head the IDF's new "Depth Corps." Avital has been out of the IDF for over a decade and is close with Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

"Today, as in the past, our considerations are practical, military and transparent," Gantz added.
