Germany seeks life sentence for US airmen killer

FRANKFURT - German prosecutors demanded a life sentence on Monday for a Kosovo-Albanian man who shot dead two US airmen and wounded two more at Frankfurt airport last March.
Federal prosecutor Jochen Weingarten said 21-year-old Arid Uka, who confessed to the killings, deserved the toughest penalty possible given the ferocity of his attack on the bus carrying the US military personnel. The shooting shocked Americans but fears the attack was part of a militant plot were dismissed when German prosecutors said he was likely to have been working alone.
Dressed in a black shirt and black "hoodie", Uka did not speak and showed no emotion as lawyers and the father of one of his victims addressed the court.
Weingarten said the attack could have been even bloodier had Uka's 9mm pistol not jammed, since 11 other servicemen were trapped, defenseless, on the bus.
