Golan international numbers to ease calling from abroad

Continuing its pursuit of foreigners, tourists, and non-citizens in Israel, Golan Telecom announced on Sunday a program that would allow foreigners to call Israel using international phone numbers.

Customers in Golan Telecom's "unlimited all-inclusive" or "birthday" plan can link their lines to local phone numbers in two countries of their choice from a list of 20, which includes the US, UK and France. Friends and family in those countries would then be able to dial the local number in order to chat with Israel for the price of a local call.

In May, the discount cellular provider became the first Israeli company to allow customers to sign up without the use of a national ID number, meaning tourists and foreigners in Israel could get a cellular plan using just their passport and a foreign credit card.

The company estimated that the market of tourists, frequent visitors and immigrants comprised 150,000-300,000 people.
