Hamas man dies in Jordan after being released from PA jail

A Hamas preacher died in a Jordan hospital on Tuesday, months after his release from a West Bank jail run by the Palestinian Authority and prompting accusations by his family that he died from abuse sustained while in detention. Kamal Abu Toameh, suffered a series of brain strokes during a nine-month stint in a prison in the West Bank, said his nephew, Thaer Abu Toameh. The preacher's son, Sayyaf Abu Toameh, gave a similar statement on a Hamas Web site. "Hamas believes Abbas' security agency killed Kamal Abu Toameh," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said in Gaza. Abu Toameh was arrested by Fatah in September in the Palestinian Fawar refugee camp in southern West Bank. He was released in March.
